One
of the primary features of Anipro/Xtraformance Feeds' All
Natural Protein Supplements is that no NPN sources are
used to boost the protein content.
When selecting a protein source, one needs to consider
the animal's ability to utilize that protein source in
conjunction with the existing diet. The ability of an animal
to utilize NPN is reduced when fed in conjunction with
low quality forages. The amount of TDN (energy) with a
ration will determine the success of a NPN supplement.
Research by Torell, Balliette and Krysl of the University
of Nevada Cooperative Extension Service indicated that
utilization of NPN (urea) is poor when supplementing cattles
grazing low quality forage and good in rations with highly
digestible energy content such as concentrate (grains)
rations, as is shown in the following chart.

Additionally,
calves weighing less than 450 pounds should never be fed
NPN as the rumen microorganisms are not developed well
enough to utilize the NPN adequately.
For these reasons, Anipro/Xtraformance Feeds uses Corn
Steep and Condensed Corn Distillers Solubles (CCDS) as
the primary protein source. As the chart below shows, these
ingredients are significantly higher in protein than are
other liquid carriers.
